So, I will definitely go fairly in-depth into this game at somepoint, right now I will just put a bit of information about it.

Knytt Stories is a a freeware game released in August of 2007 with an in-depth and in-built level design and publishing system to allow for custom campaigns. The game only had a couple of campaigns bundled into the base game, however with the level design software and in-built publishing there is a vast amount of custom campaigns for use.

I remember spending a short amount of time playing through the base game and an extraordinary amount of time creating custom levels/campaigns. The combination of easily useable level editors and easy to understand tileset system made it an absolute joy to build levels in. I also remember being able to test levels almost immediately due to the short loading time allowing creation of tough and easily testable jumping puzzles with relative ease.

Certainly I have lost the level I spent a lot of effort on a long time ago, however I remember having to traverse different areas, picking up the umbrella upgrade allowing access through a leap of faith into a falling area (where you were blown up by the wind when holding the umbrella open.) so you had to control your descent to not collide with any spikes. And I remember loving to create puzzles throughout the game with just the base "walking speed" movement being a factor rather than immediately getting the running shoes. Allowing me to focus the level design on a comparitavely small area. I remember it being about a bird as well, returning to a bird at the end?

I'm going to go back and try this game again whilst undoubtedly getting addicted to the level editor again.

This game is a big inspiration for me and I would love to make a similar game allowing levels to be made easily, however I am very not good at coding so I doubt it will ever come to fruition.
