A little thing I might work on, ranking random commanders based on factors that I haven't defined yet.
I'm getting one of these at random by pressing on this link here. This should update over time to include all of the new commanders as well, however will not include silver-bordered/banned commanders. I may have to do these seperately.
I'm not quite sure how I'm going to actually make the tierlist, I saw this tierlist of guiltygear songs and thought it looked really cool. However I'm not sure how well it would work with a tierlist of (at time of writing 03.03.26) just under 3000 cards. I would also like to do it so it's updating automatically based on the rating I give it, however I'm fairly certain that would involve javascript and I'm scared of that.
My playstyle in commander is not always to play the most streamlined or "best" deck for the commander and my rankings will reflect that. It will not be based on popularity or on power level. I will be ranking it out of 5 in different categories which are:
- Flavour
- How flavourful is the card, who is the character, what does the character represent, is this reflected in the cards mechanics?
- Mechanics
- How well do the mechanics of the cards work?
- Flexibility
- Can this card be played in multiple ways? There is normally a streamlined or clearly signposted way of playing a card, however can this be adjusted or abused to play in a way that is not expected or "the norm".
- Unique
- Does this card do anything unique, is there any difference to what or how this card works compared to previous similar cards.
With the ranking associated with them being:
- S: 20 points
- A: 17-19 points
- B: 13-16 points
- C: 9-12 points
- D: 5-8 points
- F: 4 points
Most cards in the F category are going to be legendary "draft chaff". Those printed at common or uncommon who are a named character. In new sets tend to be printed at legendary without doing anything mechanically unique or something that a different non-legendary card could do/does.
This is going to be an ongoing project for a long long time, the position of the legendary in the tier is not based on inner rankings, just on the order I did a review of them.
